PANNONIAN CHALLENGE XI DRIVERS
Daniel Dhers BMX
Danny is nothing if not consistent – consistently the best. An exceptional breakout year in 2006 – in which he clinched the Action Sports Tour title – made Dhers as the man to beat in 2007, but no one could get near him. He went on to defend his AST title in 2007 and 2008, adding successive X Games golds for good measure. That success couldn’t be in sharper contrast to the Venezuelan’s low-key start to the sport: he and only took up BMX because his friends got bikes. His attitude changed when his parents moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina, when he was 16. It gave him the chance to develop his skills against a wider circle of riders and – more importantly – a bigger and better park. In 2004, Danny was invited to Woodward’s Camp ramp Mecca in Pennsylvania hasn’t looked back since, leaving his rivals vying for second place.
Brad Simms BMX
Born in Maryland, Brad has spent the last two years on a nomadic adventure, making new BMX friends around the world while visiting 32 countries since July 2007. He possesses inhuman pop that has made his bunnyhop skill legendary, and he destroys street spots across the globe with a combination of technical rail tricks and blasted 360s off edges. Simms will make a stop in Los Angeles for his second X Games appearance, then it's back to collecting video footage and passport stamps.
Senad Grošić BMX
Senad Grosic isn’t afraid to take on the biggest jump or hardest trick. In fact, he’s made a career of it. In 2008, Grosic turned from competitor to test-track dummy when he took on a 2.9m high ramp being prepared for freestyle motocross. The Austrian used a coal mine near Riedersbach and his landing hill was a dusty pile of coal. Since it was impossible to get a running start in the deep coal sand, he used a 60-meter-long and 80-centimeter-wide conveyor belt to pick up the speed he needed to perform tricks a backflip tayle and backflip no-hander. It was typical of a man who first made his mark on the BMX world in 2003 and who was crowned Austrian King of Dirt and Red Bull Dirt Ride champion in 2004.
Tobias Wicke BMX
Tobias is today 26 years old. With eight years he wants to be a "Heart-surgeon", with 12 his parents buy him his first BMX. He practices freestyle tricks in the backyard on his selfmade Dirts. 2000 is his break-through as he gets the WM title in the Master Class on mini ramps. Soon after that, he wins the second place at the German Championship, also on the mini ramp, but this time as a pro. Since, he had various victories in street, miniramp and dirt on nameful events like the IFMA, the BMX Worlds, Metro Jam, King of Concrete, 3 Degrees, BMX P.I.G., the first RebelJam (in his homeland, Berlin) and lastly the victory in street at the LG-Games 2005. Tobias is known by other drivers and his friends as a technician, being creative with lots of ideas to try out new tricks and moves. He gets some help from all the various movies and DVD's. He watches a trick, goes it through in his mind and tries it himself - not without attaching an other one.
Jurica Barać BMX
svima poznatiji pod nadimkom Jura, ima dvadeset godina. Živi, studira i trenira u Osijeku.
Boaz Aquino SKATE
The skateboard for Boaz Akino is much more than a sport, it’s a way of life! His splendid resume boasts many international competitions world wide (Turkey, Cyprus, Italy, France, Finland and more), and many national Israeli championships. Besides being a gifted skater, Boaz is also engaged in photography and editing skateboard videos. Boaz is known as one of the hardcore leaders of the street scene – an urban skating scene which incorporates street obstacle-simulating elements which are put together into a challenging, complex obstacle course that enables skaters to demonstrate free skating styles. “The beauty of this sport is its freedom”, Says Boaz, “the freedom to use any surface, any surface, for skating. I actively blend into the urban scenery. There’s no need to wait for waves or snow. All you need is to be healthy and motivated.” At the age of six Boaz skated for his first time, and that’s where the addiction started. At the age of 13 he was already riding professionally, and in order to improve himself he flew to the United States, staying there for eight months, during which he improved his skills and set himself as a true professional skater! In 2004 a delegation from the biggest European skateboard magazine arrived in Israel and generated the buzz around Boaz. In fact, this was his breakthrough into international awareness in the extreme sports. In between 2002-2005 Boaz suffered many injuries, which brought about a delay in his achievements and professional development. But in 2005 he got back big time in to the competitive local arena and the international scene. “You have to be aware of the dangers, “Akino says, “Imagine the worst in your head and try to avoid it”. Among his prominent achievements one may count: first place in the national skateboard championship tour (2005); first place in the Red Bull Streets Bogs (2005); Sixth place in the Simple Session competition (Estonia 2006); second place in Heffe of Helsinki (Finland 2007); second place in the Israeli championship (Game of Skate 2007); and second place in the Israeli Championship (Mini Ramp 2008). Another, not less impressive achievement of Boaz’s was when Zion Skateboard Company fitted to his sizes a personalized skateboard by his design and in his name. One of the things that the kateboard taught Boaz, beyond the technical aspect and special tricks, is that “Where there’s a will there’s always a way. If you want something hard enough, if you put in enough effort – you can reach any level!” And what are the current aspirations of the promising skater?...”To get to China. Chine is currently in its peak of urban development. There’s a wave of square construction over there right now, with a lot of marble, which is a strong, skate-able material. In short, every skater’s dream!
Benny Korthaus MTB
Korthaus first rode a bike at the age of five and made his first professional appearance at the age of 10. He started out as a BMX rider, taking titles all over Austria and finishing first in the Club championships. In 1997 he moved over to the world of BMX dirt and track. In 2001 he was awarded ‘Rookie of the year’ and 2002 saw him crowned as ‘Champion of dirt’. Eight years as a dirt and track rider and no fewer than 14 overall podium finishes, seven of which saw him standing on the top step, and he switched discipline again to MTB Dirt, Freeride and Slopestyle. Benny took the title of Air King in both 2007 and 2008, and continues to take titles all over the world with over 20years experience behind him.
